What is it about?
This article explains the core ideas in Judith Butler's ethical philosophy since 2004 ('Precarious Life') and applies them to two films directed by Abderrahmane Sissako (Mali/Mauritania), 'Bamako' (2006) and 'Timbuktu' (2014).

Why is it important?
My article is timely because of the increasing trend to use contemporary films for their ethical implications, and important because very little work has been done linking Butler's philosophy to film.
