What is it about?

It's about poetry and education, poetry AS education. This essay, and the forum in general, debates whether poetry can teach its readers anything, and if so, how. It also reflects on what's at stake in asking these questions in the first place.

Why is it important?

Readers have traditionally read Pound's long poem The Cantos as an "epic of instruction". We argue that this ide needs to be challenged, and suggest that Pound was trying to achieve something more ambitious and problematic.

Perspectives

We tried to spark a debate that might extend beyond the narrow field of Pound studies. We don't know if what we've done will do that, but we're immensely grateful to everyone who contributed.
