What is it about?
Deleuze proposed the concept of impulse-image within his taxonomy of movement-images, stating that it is the best example of the naturalistic thought in cinema. However, it was still necessary to show why this concept is linked to Deleuze's long dialog with Freudian psychoanalysis and its concept of death drive.

Why is it important?
My research shows that both the concept of death drive proposed by Deleuze in the 1960s and the critical stance towards psychoanalysis radicalized in the 1970s, in the works written with Félix Guattari, are necessary to comprehend the impulse-images and the naturalism in the cinema proposed by the author in the 1980s.
Perspectives
With this work, I hope to stimulate research in impulse-images, showing that it is an important episode of Deleuzian confrontation with the drive theory of psychoanalysis. Furthermore, I intend to give visibility to Deleuze's proposal on naturalistic cinema, which is in line with contemporary readings of 19th century naturalistic literature.
