What is it about?
Challenges and prospects for African states in their quest for a single interoperable African sky. The article looks at the steps taken so far, the international treaties adopted, and the role of the RECs (SADC, EAC, ECOWAS etc) in liberating African skies.

Why is it important?
It comes as a time when Africa is involved in adopting a model of upper airspace management similar to the single European sky initiative (SES). It complements the efforts of major aviation role players such as South Africa, in regulating and developing global aviation.
