What is it about?

This paper explores how issues of class, community and gender reflect nostalgia for an imagined vision of the 1970s in Britain. It also explores how in a world of global terrorism the Cold War is seen as 'the last good war' where the enemy was clear and a set of rules could be applied to intelligence. It does this by examining how the filming techniques and plot can be seen as the 'alice' variation of chess - which had a set of rules which could be worked out by participants in intelligence communities.
