Why is it important?

No other study has been made about the importance of Shakespeare in Synge's career, from his undergraduate studies at Trinity College, Dublin, with Professor Edward Dowden through to the ways in which HAMLET impacts on PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD.

Perspectives

Synge has been a major area of my scholarly interests for over 40 years. He seems inexhaustible; there are always new things to know about him.
