Detective Stories and Burnett's The Secret Garden

What is it about?

In The Secret Garden, Burnett uses strategies which she may have borrowed from the detective stories of her time. Mary is in the perfect position to solve the case of the mysterious crier on Misselthwaite Manor, and she also has the right qualities for the job

Why is it important?

This contribution opens up a new possi9bility to interpret Mary's character and explores a field that has not yet been investigated.
