What is it about?

Not until recently, there is no legislation specifically enacted to protect people with disability in Nigeria. This to certain extent denied them the enjoyment of rights like any other persons without disability. Thus argued for the application of International laws for enforcement and protection of disabled persons in Nigeria.

Why is it important?

We explained the implications of non existence of legislation on the protection of disabled persons in Nigeria despite being signatory to international convention on disability rights. The significance of this contention is to motivate the Nigerian National Assembly to consider and pass law prohibiting discrimination against people with disability.

Perspectives

Writing this paper with co-author was advantageous. The article has to an extent achieved success with the recent enactment of an Act by Legislative Assembly Prohibiting all forms of discrimination against people with disability in Nigeria.
