Why is it important?
The pressure on irrigated agriculture is increasing day-by-day to ensure food security. The irrigation water in Bangladesh is a limited resource. A dramatic increase in demand of water for dry season irrigation causes an acute shortage of water in many parts of the country. So, additional water source(s) for irrigation may be an important solution to this problem.
