What is it about?

Papaya fruit (Carica papaya) could protect liver damage from various causes. This research is about the protective effects of papaya from carbon tetra-chloride induced liver injury in rats in comparison to Vitamin E.

Why is it important?

Many of the commonly used drugs and chemicals are cause various types of liver damages. A big number of patients dying from fulminant hepatic failure have drug induced toxicity leading to hepatitis. There are only very few therapeutic options for such liver injury. Natural remedy is gaining popularity globally in present days due to lesser toxicity and easy availability. If, papaya could protect liver from damaging effect of drugs and chemicals, it could be a very big success specially for people living in the developing countries who cannot afford modern therapy.

Perspectives

It was a great opportunity for our team of Pharmacologists working in the laboratory of the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics of Dhaka Medical College, Bangladesh to accomplish this per-clinical study to find solutions for a big health concern of the country and globally.
