What is it about?

This study showed that the root of Uvaria chamae has the ability to reduce the blood glucose levels in people who are diabetic. This is because of the unique phytochemicals present in Uvaria chamae.

Why is it important?

The study showed that the extract of Uvaria chamae has hypoglycemic properties which may be accounted for by the presence of the secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids and tannins etc. Based on the positive results we got from this study, the antidiabetic activities of hydroethanolic root extract of Uvaria chamae will be carried out all in a view to discover a cheap and alternative medicine for the treatment of diabetes mellitus.

Perspectives

The general results from this study will serve as a platform or basis for a clinical trial on the use of Uvaria chamae for the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
