What is it about?

Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder, affecting the red blood cells. Thalassemia is caused by a mutation in the cell that makes hemoglobin. The problem is free iron and hemosiderosis-induced damage of the endocrine glands and aetiology of growth delay including chronic anaemia and hypoxia, nutritional deficiencies, intensive use of chelating agents. it effect the growth of children.

Why is it important?

We observed and survey the growth related problems in Thalassemia patients in India.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long standing collaborations. This article also lead to Thalassemia groups contacting me and ultimately to a greater involvement in Thalassemia research.
