What is it about?
This study decribes the sports participation of Dutch children with Lower Limb Deficiencies (LLD) and explores differences between various degrees of limb loss and different prostheses. We also examined the opinions of children and adolescents with LLD with regard to perceived limitations concerning sports participation.

Why is it important?
Our findings show that the sports participation of Dutch children with LLD equats the norm of sports participation in typically developing children in The Netherlands. Most children participate in the sports of their preference, although it has become clear that some children experience limitations in physical performance (running) and endurance. The sports participation of children and adolescents with Above Knee prostheses and rotationplasty prostheses was found to be less than in other types of prostheses.
Perspectives
With exploring the data of this study it has become clear that children with LLD are very active and have good potential to participate in sports, but some children cann't keep up. We have become more aware and motivated to integrate interventions and more advanced (sport) prostheses improving the physical performance of especially those children who experience limitations.
