A roadmap is provided for practitioners and businesses to a) detect presence of virtuality in their existing work practices and structure; b) enhance and leverage its presence to mitigate adverse effects of and prepare better for crises and catastrophes like the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

Perspectives

Academia derives considerably from practice and must contribute to it for remaining relevant. There is a lot of scope to learn from the manner the COVID-19 situation has panned out across the globe. The end does not seem in sight and relapses are liklier than ever. Also, the probability of similar unexpected situation having a lasting impact on businesses has increased tremendously. Therefore, businesses and managers must now focus on preparing for crises of the future, and this preparation can be aided by theoretical basis such as the one provided in this article.
