What is it about?
Five wheat lines that contain natural resistance to the insect Russian wheat aphid, and three important diseases namely Stem rust, Stripe rust and Leaf rust were developed in South Africa and have been release internationally and breeding lines. This manuscript describes the characteristic of the released lines.,

Why is it important?
Good resistance to Russian wheat aphid and wheat rusts has been transferred from wheat lines that also contain negative traits that make them less preferred for use in modern agriculture. Wheat breeders can now use this germplasm to introduce these desirable traits to their breeding programmes without running the risk of including negative linkage drag to unwanted traits. The combination of resistance genes is unique and contributes to good stewardship of natural resistance by including the Lr34/Yr18 complex.
