What is it about?

This study tries to identify extrinsic factors in the maternal environment that potentially confer an increased risk of congenital hydrocephalus development (environmental factors that directly affect the mother and possibly cause hydrocephalus by indirectly affecting the fetus) and could be avoided or modified.

Why is it important?

Given that Congenital Hydrocephalus is an important cause of infant disability with substantial long-term health effects, identifying and investigating potential risk factors related to maternal environmental characteristics would be a critical step in preventing some of these cases.
