What is it about?
The results of a prospective multicentric study of deep brain stimulation (bilateral thalamic) in patients affected by disorders of consciousness
Featured Image
Why is it important?
Our study is the first prospective multicentric study showing that bilateral thalamic stimulation improves consciousness in patients affected by long term(more than two years) post-traumatic disorders of consciousness. Our results indicate that all patients improved but none regained full consciousness.
Perspectives
Our study suggest that we need a deeper neurophysiological characterization of patients affected by disorder of consciousness in order to improve the results of deep brain stimulation.
