What is it about?
Passive language mapping measures brain activity while the person is doing specific tasks and this allows us to see which cortical regions activated. The cortico-cortical evoked potentials allow to quickly find cortical networks and this allows to map e.g. the whole language network of the brain. Neurosurgeons can use These principles to identify the most important regions of the brain and can avoid to remove these regions during the brain surgery.

Why is it important?
The high-gamma mapping principle is more accurate, faster and safer way to find the eloquent cortex and is currently replacing electrical current stimulation in neurosurgery applications. The electrical current stimulation needs a long time to be performed, can lead to seizures and is unpleasant for the patient and neurosurgeon.
Perspectives
High-Gamma mapping will replace electrical cortical stimulation in future because it is more accurate, quicker and safer for the patient.
