Why is it important?
Demonstrates that transsphenoidal methods have less serious complications than craniotomy. Also demonstrates that surgeon bias is the dominant factor in decided craniotomy versus transsphenoidal approach, not the tumor. Together these data demonstrate that 1) endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery is the preferred way to remove craniopharyngioma and 2) surgeons performing craniopharyngioma surgery should be expert in transsphenoidal methods.
