Why is it important?

Previous classification mainly was made mainly based on the MRI findings. The proposed one is based on the developmental stage of the spinal cord. Thus, it matches better with clinical findings and surgical difficulties.

Perspectives

The new classification system is more reasonable than the previous ones since it is based on the embryonal stage. Understanding clinical features of spinal lipomas would be enhanced more with the use of this systematic classification.
