What is it about?

At the end of the French empire, international Catholic nongovernmental organizations sought to extend their reach into Africa a the same time as African national churches sought to more firmly extend their role into everyday life in the new nation-states. This led to rivalries between local and foreign missionaries and Church leaders on the ground in Francophone African states.
