What is it about?

There are many theories attempting to explain why scoliosis occurs initially. As deficiency of vitamin D is common in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) in Hong Kong and that the its level is inversely related to the severity of the curve, vitamin D may play in the role in the disease process. We attempt to theorize the role of vitamin D deficiency, taking into consideration the existing prevailing theories of idiopathic scoliosis.

Why is it important?

If insufficiency of vitamin D increases the severity of the curve, it follows that vitamin D supplements may reduce its progression and this requires further investigation.

Perspectives

Would like to see studies done to determine if vitamin D supplements affect the progression of mild scoliosis curve.
