Why is it important?

Tribal populations are at high risk for motor vehicle (MV) crash injury. Seat belts are a primary offense in injury prevention during MV crash events. Results supported the need for public awareness and visible enforcement in producing longer-term positive effect from the primary seat belt law.

Perspectives

It is critical to conduct ongoing evaluations for interventions in pubic safety such as the primary seat belt law. Understanding the human behaviors is a necessary part of due diligence in assuring effective programs are being delivered to improve public safety. Exercises such as this build capacity within groups to understand the importance of and conduct these evaluations themselves in the future.
