What is it about?

In this paper, we report findings of increased response time variability in visuomotor tasks associated with language abilities. Based of these findings, we introduce a new hypothesis that could explain individual differences in language acquisition.

Why is it important?

Several theories have been suggested to explain individual differences in language acquisition and its disorders (such as developmental language disorder, DLD). However, these theories have not gained support in all replication attempts. Here we introduce a hypothesis that could possibly also underlie findings that have been interpreted as support for other theories. Many existing datasets allow testing our hypothesis.
