What is it about?
It is already known that wearing some cellulite reduction compression garments for 8 hours in each 24 can reduce cellulite in women who suffer from it. Varipads are a new technology that have been developed to improve the efficacy of such compression garments. Varipads are hypoallergenic ink pads that are added to the inside of compression shorts. They are of different sizes and are placed in a precise pattern, developed by mathematical modeling, to maximize lymph flow back to the local lymph nodes. This study compared the effect of compression alone on one side, with compression with Varipads on the other. It showed that a significant number of women found that the benefits of wearing the compression with Varipads was significantly better than wearing the compression alone. In addition, the study showed a significant improvement in the Quality of Life of those women using the compression with Varipads, as well as a significant decrease in the fluid in the tissues, measured using a special probe.

Why is it important?
Cellulite affects most adult women, causing embarrassment, loss of confidence and psychological distress. There are very few treatments that have been scientifically proven to improve cellulite. We have previous shown that wearing specific compression garments between waist and mid-thigh for 8 hours in 24, reduces the appearance of cellulite. The effect lasts for weeks after stopping the comnpression. In this research, we have shown that adding Varipads to compression garments significantly increases the efficacy of reducing cellulite, improving quality of life and reducing fluid under the skin. Qualitatively, the comments moment from participants was that the Varipads also improved the skin texture, making it feel smoother and softer. The way that this study was set up, by comparing one side to the other in each patient, we were able to account for any individual differences in participants, such as size, shape or biology. As such, this is very strong clinical evidence to use Varipads if women wish to reduce their cellulite as effectively as possible.
Perspectives
Many products claim to improve the appearance of cellulite, without doing any real scientific research to prove their claims. This paper reports on the second study that we have performed on Varipads, under strict scientific conditions and which was registered as a proper scientific study on the Clinical Trials Registry. Not only have we shown that Varipads improve cellulite over and above that obtained from compression alone, but this has been backed up by measurements of improved quality of life and reduced trans-dermal water content in the participants. As such, we can be confident in the benefit that Varipads can bring to women with cellulite.
