What is it about?
The paper deals with three examples of the so called unbalanced multilingualism (Rzech Pospolita, Ottoman Empire, and Latvian Republic). On the base of the crosslinguistic comparison, the paper shows trigger mechanisms of lexical transfer from the dominant (official) language into stigmatized languages in the postimperial context.
