What is it about?

The Presentiment Effect (PSE) is a yet physically unexplained empirically established physiological effect that involves psychology. I provide an orthodox quantum mechanical (QM) mathematical model for the appearance of the PSE and indicate some empirical support of it. The used framework is the “decoherent histories” approach. I then suggest that the empirically confirmed existence of this effect indicates that the orthodox interpretation of quantum mechanics, with its emphasis on the primary mind and perceptions, is the correct one.

Why is it important?

Because the PSE seems to contradict common ideas about how time flows the statistically well verified PSE is a very surprising effect and hard to believe. For several decades it remained physically unexplained. My article suggests, for the first time, an appropriate physical explanation. Technically, the explanation is a quantum mechanical one. Though most successful the proper interpretation of QM is highly controversial. The fact that my successful explanation relies on the Orthodox interpretation of QM is a clear evidence for the correctness of this theo-psychophysical interpretation that emphasizes the role of conscious minds and their perceptions and denies the existence of "matter". Philosophically speaking, this scientifically units physics with psychology in one comprehensive theory.

Perspectives

This article mathematically and philosophically completes the argument raised in my previous article [Levin, E. Y. (2020). The presentiment effect as a quantum delusion. Psychology of Consciousness: Theory, Research, and Practice, 7(2), 189–205. https://doi.org/10.1037/cns0000207] concerning the PSE. I hope that this will be recognized as an important and decisive contribution to the enduring debate about the interpretation of QM. [Please notice that my ResearchGate site contains a somewhat longer (preliminary, yet correct) version of this JAEX published article. That longer version is entitled "Excessively Detailed PSE Points to an Occurrence of a Collapse". It contains some additional mathematical details that may help to follow the mathematical derivation.]
