What is it about?

There has been an explosion of interest in Immunotherapy for cancer, but what about immunotherapy for infectious diseases ? Rising rates of resistance to antibiotics has led to the specter of superbugs untreatable by current antibiotics. And big drug companies seem to have lost interest in developing new antimicrobials, due to perceived low profit margins. Immunotherapy was once the main way that serious infections, such as diphtheria and pneumococcal pneumonia, were treated in the pre-antibiotic era. In this review we discuss whether immunotherapy will be making a comeback in treating difficult infections.
