What is it about?

We asked a sample of GPs that had referred patients to involuntary admission which criteria they had used in their latest referral. 38% had used the danger criterion only and 32% had used both the danger and the treatment criteria together.

Why is it important?

We need more knowledge about why patients are referred to involuntary admission in order to reduce unneccesary admissions.

Perspectives

Little is known about how GPs reason when referring patients to involuntary admission. This study shows the considerations of a sample of GPs that had recently referred patients.
