What is it about?

This publication describes five plant products usually used in traditional setting to quickly improve the level of blood in humans. The plant products are Solanum aethiopicum, Sida rhombifolia, Irvinia gabonensis, Fiscus capensis and Curcubita maxima. Solanum aethiopicum, Sida rhombofolia and Curcubita maxima have been identified as good sources of iron. Solanum aethiopicum, Sida rhombofilia and Fiscus capensis are rich sources of vitamin C. Although they are underutilized, their intake will prevent anaemia and promote healthy living in pro-vitamin A, while Solanum aethiopicum and Curcubita maxima are rich sources of vitamin C.

These plant products contain vitamins and minerals relevant to blood building and the prevention of anaemia and should be frequently included in the diet. The study should create interest in research for other plant products for anaemia prevention.
