What is it about?

The goal of this study is to investigate the effect and influence of cross-sections data, imple- mented in DOSXYZnrc Monte Carlo code, on the dose distributions data such as beam dose profiles and percentage depth dose, and it influences on the efficiency. This study was performed in tow phases: the commissioning of Phase Space file generated by SATURNE 43 for 12 MV and the analysis of these Phase Space files by using different cross section implemented DOSXYZnrc code. A SATURNE 43 linear accelerator head’s has been modeled with BEAMnrc Monte Carlo code to simulate a 12 MV photon beam on a square field size of ×10 cm 2 . Phase Space аПТмаГles for the SATURNE 43 photon beam were created by using the EGSnrc BEAMnrc system. The Phase Space аПТмаГle was scored below the botom jaws and used as input in simulation using DOSXYZnrc. The calculated results established that the percentage depth dose curves, beam profiles dose and efficiency are less sensitive to photon, pair, and Bremsstrahlung cross-sections data available in DOSXYZnrc code.

Why is it important?

We study the Influence of photon and Compton, Pair and brestrahlung Cross Sections Implemented in DOSXYZnrc on the dose distributions (percentage depth dose and profile dose) and Efficiency computation. This make and facilitate the researcher to use the optimized parameter to study and calculate the dose distribution. Normally, to obtain good statistics it is required to simulate hundreds of millions of particles. The development of advanced computers for parallel calculations has opened new issues for MC researchers.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has co-authors with whom I have had long standing collaborations. This article also lead to rare disease groups contacting me and ultimately to a greater involvement in rare disease research. Also, we can say that dose distributions resulted from Megavoltage are less sensitive on the variation of photon cross-sections data available in DOSXYZnrc, but we recommended to use default library. Finally, the paper are useful for understanding the variation of efficiency, PDD and DP calculations with DOSXYZnrc cross-sections data.
