What is it about?

This article explores how the 1917 Revolution in Daghestan is understood differently by Ali Kaiaev, a Daghestani scholar of Islam, through his Arabic-language manuscript. Unlike the accounts by Soviet, Western, and post-Soviet historians, Kaiaev’s narrative offers a local perspective that has often been ignored due to limited access to private archives. By examining Kaiaev’s work, this study sheds light on how Daghestani scholar experienced and interpreted the revolution, offering a fresh view on the political and social changes in the region during that time.
