What is it about?
The article is an attempt to sketch the relationship of Michel de Certeau’s thought to the monastic tradition. This tradition is presented on the example of texts by some selected authors, above all Evagrius Ponticus and John Cassian. The sketched relationship is shown in the context of the notion of ‘Absence’, whose broad connotation, both mystical and existential, corresponds to the mainstream ‘affinity’ of Certeau with the monks. In doing so, the metaphor of dance is used, helping to better nuance the differences or even contradictions, despite the affinity, present in both realities.
