Personality Matters: a New Approach to Studying Foreign Policy Making in Uzbekistan

Central Asia is undergoing significant political changes, and many positive developments are being linked to the actions and personalities of its leaders. For example, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been praised for improving regional relationships through diplomacy and economic cooperation. This article looks at how Mirziyoyev’s leadership style and decision-making influence Uzbekistan’s foreign policy. Using a method called Leadership Trait Analysis (LTA), the study goes beyond typical explanations like geography or domestic issues to explore how personal leadership traits shape policies. The findings also provide insights into similar leader-driven approaches in other Central Asian countries, helping us better understand the region’s shifting political and diplomatic landscape. This research aims to deepen our knowledge of how leaders’ characteristics impact major decisions, offering valuable lessons for future studies and international policymaking.
