What is it about?
Turkmenistan is one of the most repressive countries in the world. In this article, we ask why this repression has never seen any type of backlash, or why people do not resist the Turkmen regime. After talking with experts and Turkmen nonviolent resisters, our answer is that Turkmenistan is so isolated, people don't even think a better life would be possible. Even if they did, they would not know how to get there, as only the president (and his family) can really change this in the country, and no one can really come to their aid.
