What is it about?

The article allows for tracking how Kazakhstan’s scholarship has created its knowledge about the East by evaluating past Soviet and contemporary research and academic frameworks. Despite its limitations, Soviet Oriental studies served as the foundation for the development of contemporary Oriental studies. Therefore, the article provides a case study of the Soviet and post-Soviet development of Oriental studies, aiming to evaluate its evolutionary trajectory.
