What is it about?

Oxidative stress (OS) associated with estrogen deficiency in menopause has been implicated in various complications of menopause. We demonstrated that postmenopausal women had lower Estradiol, Total antioxidant capacity, and Increased lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress index compared to premenopausal women.

Why is it important?

Elevated uric acid, lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress and reduced total Calcium, Estradiol and antioxidants observed in postmenopausal women may be associated with aging and not the menopausal status suggesting that their assessment may be utilized in predicting women at increased risk of gouty osteoarthritis.

Perspectives
