What is it about?

Many past research correlated Big Five personality traits with raw self-assessed Likert type funniness scores, this analysis scales and aggregates keyed funniness scores before correlation. Scaling reduces individual bias and amplifies relative differences between jokes. Correlation is computed in three stages, each stage produced a linear regression model whose prediction evaluated by computing relative entropy.

Why is it important?

The estimation of loss of entropy is an important step in assessing the prediction of personality from humour, it differentiated between good and bad predictors. Score averages of individuals were found to be good predictors of Extroversion and Neuroticism, while scaled, aggregated and keyed scores were good predictors of Agreeableness, Conscientiousness and Openness. Relying on correlation values alone did not lead to as clear a link.

Perspectives

This analysis was done on 789 valid participants, the detected profiles did not show on earlier samples with lower count of participants. I welcome any offer to seek confirmation or participate in further research. The raw scores and joke list are available online at osf.io/dx79n/ .
