Why is it important?

This article highlights the importance of the supervisory relationship and the necessary negotiations to ensure successful outcomes for the candidate during their transformation into academics. Postgraduate students, beginning researchers and both new and experienced supervisors could learn strategies to facilitate the productive and rewarding relationship for all parties.

Perspectives

I was delighted when Joy invited me to co-author this article reflecting back on our years as postgraduate students doing our PhDs. They were most rewarding, exhilarating and enjoyable years of self discovery and increased self understanding that transformed my life. In addition to describing aspects of women's learning, I rediscovered my self.
