What is it about?

Here, we present an extensive panel of clinical specimens to systematically evaluate the technical sensitivity of SARS-CoV-2 antigen rapid detection tests

Why is it important?

Currently, there are no standardized methods to evaluate the performance of SARS-CoV-2 rapid antigen detection tests. This makes comparison of performance between tests difficult, if not impossible. However, the here presented specimen panel can be used for the evaluation of technical sensitivity of SARS-CoV-2 antigen rapid detection tests.

Perspectives

Until now, the specimen panel has been successfully used in the evaluation of 122 SARS-CoV-2 rapid antigen detection tests distributed in the EU. https://www.eurosurveillance.org/content/10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2021.26.44.2100441 Currently, we are working on further improving the current specimen panel to also include specimens for the evaluation of rapid antigen detection test specificity.
