What is it about?

This text is a revision of how sociology in Ecuador developped as a science. By drawing on Luhmann's systems theory, it understands the development of sociology on the one hand as a localization. This localization is, on the other hand, defined by certain forms of institutionalization that defines how sociology understands itself - and, by this, how it understands society.

Why is it important?

There is not much research on the development of sociology in Ecuador. And most of the research on the development of sociology whereever remains descriptive, without further theoretical reflection.

Perspectives

This is the fourth theoretical text of my research project on Ecuadorian sociology. The first one focused on the local-global-relation in terms of exclusion into science as a global system. Number two and three understood this relation discursively and institutionally. This text, finally, combines in a more systematic manner system theory and (neo-)institutionalism.
