What is it about?

Industry 5.0 is offering a new business context, which is designed with automation systems in cooperation with humans, robots, and algorithms. The transformation in "the way of doing things" in businesses is expected to change the required skills to perform work activities, which may lead to skills gaps. In order to prevent skills gaps to occur, the in-demand skills should be identified. This paper explains how Industry 5.0 will create a change in employee skills in the upcoming years.

Why is it important?

Starting from 2017, Industry 5.0 has started to be discussed in the literature. Although the literature has advanced, only a limited number of studies addressed the association between industry 5.0 and employee skills. The importance of the study lies in the fact that it sheds light on possible changes in employee skills through Industry 5.0 era from a human resources (HR) perspective.

Perspectives

"... the transformation in industry 5.0 is more about human beings than technology." "Although organizations focus on acquiring advanced technology and digitization, this transformation will only be carried out by employees. This transformation will also make a difference in employee skills. Therefore, organizations will be able to adapt to the transformation only by identifying the in-demand skills of the future and meeting skills gaps they will encounter."
