It's studies the in vivo effect of the leaf extract of Duranta erecta in rodents that were challenged with benign prostatic hyperplasia. The acute toxicity of the plant was studied, the prostatic markers were assayed, the antioxidant makers were also assayed and the prostatic tissues were histologically examined

Why is it important?
With current findings that 70-80% of older men suffer from this disease, it becomes important to identify a phytotherapeutic agent that will be effective in the management of BPH. This research was able to show that the leaf extract of Duranta erecta was effective in the management of BPH.
Perspectives
This research should give researchers insight on the disease, BPH and ways of managing the disease.
