Why is it important?

The purpose of this study was to investigate the dynamics of the population of small rodents and insectivores in comparison with climate change. Research methods: the study is based on material obtained using traditional catching methods. Results of the work and discussion: the influence of weather and climate conditions on population cycles of small mammals in the Republic of Mordovia was carried out in 2006-2023.

Perspectives

In addition, small waves of small mammal numbers were identified, the intervals between peaks in which are from 3 to 4 years, expressed for some species. It was shown that in unfavorable years in terms of temperature and humidity (2010 and 2012), small mammals restored their population numbers by the end of the growing season due to the existing settlement zones and habitats near human settlements.
