What is it about?
Excessive alcohol consumption in Russia is well known; but there is a tendency to exaggerate it, which aims at camouflaging deficiencies in healthcare, with responsibility for the relatively high mortality, especially among males shifted onto people as if it were self-inflicted by alcohol. Certain authors exaggerate the cause-effect relationships between alcohol and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. This tendency is relatively new.
