What is it about?
The McKenzie approach is a popular method used in physiotherapy to treat low back pain. In this research, we compare this approach to other conservative treatments used to treat low back pain (including general exercise, chiropractic manipulations and other physiotherapy modalities)

Why is it important?
It shows that a subgroup of non-specific low back pain patients could benefit from specific exercises.
Perspectives
I believe that this work shows us that directional preference exercises (specific exercises) can be beneficial for patients with chronic low back pain. Does it mean that their pain is mechanical in origin? We do not know. However, directional preference exercises can be used to help desensitize the central nervous system of some patients suffering from chronic pain - whenever they need it. It is an active therapy that should be considered for this population.
