Screening tool for systems and red flag symptoms

This article describes the development of a standard tool that can be used to identify symptoms that may indicate the need for more thorough examination during routine outpatient physical therapy visits.

Why is it important?

This article is important because it represents an initial attempt to develop a standard screening tool from existing items previously identified in the literature. We found from our data analysis that the 97 item bank could be reduced down to 10 or 23 item screening tools, depending on the threshold for accuracy desired in identifying individuals that would respond positively to at least one of the item bank questions. This tool could be quite helpful in research and clinical settings but more research is needed.
