Fear avoidance beliefs contribute to our understanding of low back pain. This study assesses the ability of physical therapists to identify fear avoidance beliefs after performing a lumbar spine evaluation.

Identifying individuals with elevated fear avoidance beliefs may be an important component of a patient encounter. This study adds to our understanding of the accuracy of therapists ratings of fear avoidance when compared with the self-report questionnaires.
