What is it about?
3D printed polymers have the capability of creating low-cost, low-power solutions to improve heat exchanger performance. This paper uses two commercial polymers and designs a composite laminate layup that can morph into various shapes when heated based on the printing parameters. The experimental results are validated with a finite element analysis model.

Why is it important?
Our findings are the first to use a multimaterial composite laminate for temperature-based shape morphing, and provides the basis for making passive actuators for thermally-varying systems. It also provides a sustainable and affordable solution to creating advanced heat exchangers.
