What is it about?

Phononic materials have unique behavior depending on the frequency of the excitation. We utilize these materials to manipulate the flow around the materials by aligning their characteristic frequencies with those of the surrounding flow.

Why is it important?

This study is an initial step toward applying phononic materials to passive flow control. We introduce the design process of phononic materials, fabrication, and experiments to validate their characteristics.

Perspectives

This study introduces one aspect among different methods of applying phononic materials to flow control, which is gaining interest from various scientific and engineering communities. I hope this will lead the readers to other interesting studies as well.
